Center Cap Mod?

I finally strapped on my winter set on Sunday, but I forgot that I never did anything about the ugly center caps last year.

My aftermarket winter wheels have odd sized center caps. Everything measures up the same as the stock Audi center caps, but they don’t quite fit. It seems like the clips on the back of the caps that came with the wheels sit a little deeper. I’ve googled it to exhaustion and it seems that most people with Avant Garde brand wheels have had to mod the existing caps rather than get direct replacements. The center caps are slightly rounded so a flat sticker won’t work.

So I’m looking for something like the below, that are stickers but are convex on the back side to accommodate a rounded center cap. Unfortunately I have only been able to find them in pics.

Has anyone done anything like this? I know that it sounds anal, but I don’t like anything but the manufacturers badge in the center of a wheel.

Can you remove the caps from your winter set and try to open them up? You may be able to utilize a standard sticker if you can get them open and then resealed.

It does not look like you can peel off the existing badge without badly damaging the surface underneath. I think I found a possible solution. There is an ebay seller were you pick the size of the center cap and they ship them with whatever badge stickers you like.

Hah, I’ve been wanting a reason to “need” a 3d printer. I bet I could buy a new set of wheels that fit the Audi caps for less than I would spend on the equipment to 3d scan and print.

meh, not really. a cheap print is like $300. its if you want a certified one, thats where it gets pricey.

software is pretty easy to come by too.

eh, not REALLY for something like this. just a set of calipers and some spare time to draw it in your choice of software.

That’s true, but I’d want it for other stuff. There are so many projects that I could complete if I could just make parts. I just put one that does both on my amazon wish list and sent it to my wife haha. Fingers crossed.

BAM, 700 for this.

though personally, i’d get something else. I see ‘proprietary spools’ and get nervous.

is the logo imprinted on it? As in there are indention of the brand name?
idea for a solution/PROJECT!: fill in the lettering with your favorite filler substance, paint them black, put vinyl decal of Audi logo on top

No it’s a smooth finish. It’s definitely going to be a project. I ordered a bunch of blank center caps in 3 different sizes. If one fits well. I will measure the diameter and then get the best looking stickers that I can find. If none of them fit, I have also found a few places that sell convex metal “stickers” that might work.

paint and decal! Could you just paint them and be happy or would the lack of logo be equally frustrating?

Yea I have to have a logo. I think I like what is there better than I would like them blank. It has to be a shaped/convex sticker, a flat sticker would crease over what is there.

The only non-manufacturer center caps that are acceptable to me are BBS and Volk caps. The BBS LM F1 championship editions with the red center caps are stunning, wish I could afford a set for my M3.
